{"id":7354,"date":"2016-05-12T15:13:38","date_gmt":"2016-05-12T19:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/?p=7354"},"modified":"2016-05-12T17:03:23","modified_gmt":"2016-05-12T21:03:23","slug":"a-new-map-of-the-dunany-watershed-and-its-wetlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/en\/a-new-map-of-the-dunany-watershed-and-its-wetlands\/7354","title":{"rendered":"A new and Interesting Map of the Dunany Watershed and it&#8217;s Wetlands: have a look!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This map is a section of a larger one of the Wetlands of the Laurentians produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ducks.ca\/\">Ducks Unlimited<\/a>,\u00a0the world&#8217;s largest private, non-profit, waterfowl and wetland conservation organization,\u00a0 and Abrinord, the organization responsible for the management of the North River Watershed.<\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia defines a wetland as a land area that is <a title=\"Aquifer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aquifer\">saturated<\/a> with <a title=\"Water\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Water\">water<\/a>, either permanently or seasonally, such that it takes on the characteristics of a distinct <a title=\"Ecosystem\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ecosystem\">ecosystem<\/a>.\u00a0Wetlands play a number of roles in the environment, principally water purification, flood control, carbon sink and shoreline stability.<\/p>\n<p>Wetlands are also considered the most <a title=\"Biodiversity\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Biodiversity\">biologically diverse<\/a> of all ecosystems, serving as home to a wide range of plant and animal life.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Bassin-versant-de-Dunany-et-ses-mielieux-humides.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Bassin-versant-de-Dunany-et-ses-mielieux-humides-1024x682.png\" alt=\"Bassin versant de Dunany et ses mielieux humides\" width=\"636\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Bassin-versant-de-Dunany-et-ses-mielieux-humides-1024x682.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Bassin-versant-de-Dunany-et-ses-mielieux-humides-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Bassin-versant-de-Dunany-et-ses-mielieux-humides-768x511.png 768w, https:\/\/www.dunany.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Bassin-versant-de-Dunany-et-ses-mielieux-humides.png 1026w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/a>The map is only available in French. Key words in the legend are mar\u00e9cage, marais (Swamp), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mddelcc.gouv.qc.ca\/jeunesse\/chronique\/2002\/0209_tourbiere.htm\">Tourbi\u00e8re<\/a> (Bog), eau peu profonde (shallow water) .<\/p>\n<p>It was produced though 3-D imagery. It is quite precise.
