Memories of Dunany’s Main Events in the Last Decade. And a Bit More. Look!

Today, I am going to test your memory!

I have extracted a series of pictures from my vast collection that relate to events in our community, most of them over the last decade.

Rather than captioning them, I have written short descriptions of those events in the notes that follow this gallery. To make things easier, I have numbered them.

So, have a look at the pictures (click to enlarge if you wish) and, afterwards, read the descriptions that follow and count the number of events you spontaneously identified.

Here we go!

I may have missed some events dear to you such as the deployment of Fibre Argenteuil at the very end of 2021 but I finally figured that a list of 15 was long enough.

  1. If you were here in 2013, you probably attended the DCA’s 50th anniversary which was held in July of 2013. It was indeed a moment to remember, enlightened the brilliant and sometimes hilarious performance of Maurice Pilon, the skilful master of ceremonies of the event.
  2. This is a montage of some of the works that our talented artists presented at their 2014 Exhibition. It has been held in late August every since.
  3. On a more sober note, this picture was taken during a Beach Service at the Gloven’s.
  4. The derecho of May 22 in 2022 was probably the most violent weather event in Dunany’s history. Big trees were uprooted and one fell on a cottage where the residents had the scare of their lives.
  5. This is a picture of Dunany Bridge during its rebuilding in 2019. It’s official name is the Pont Noir, also sometimes called Copeland Bridge. It was built by Dominion Bridge in Montreal in 1912 and assembled on site the following year.
  6. Dunany Road was resurfaced in 2020 after the replacement of most of it’s culverts.
  7. Lots of Dunany residents attended the opening of the Dunany Trail in September of 2017.
  8. Did you know that a Triathlon was held in and around Curran Lake in 2015 and that more that 50 residents participated in that event organized by the Burk family?
  9. This a picture of the Glee Club in 2014 at the Dunany Music Fest. The Club is as dynamic as ever and will be performing again this summer.
  10. This picture was taken at our Golf Club on Christmas Day, 2015. Our only green Christmas in the last 30 years.
  11. Once there was a wonderful summer activity called SPANK (Superior Paddlers and Notorious Kayakers). Paddlers and kayakers would gather at a lake in Dunany or in neighbouring lakes, or even on the North River, and cruise around saluting local residents. This is a picture of the first event in 2010 at Clear Lake. Unfortunately, a new by-law in Wentworth killed it.
  12. This is a picture taken at the first Pray and Play in 2014. It is still going strong and provides important revenue to the maintenance of St.Paul’s Church of Dunany.
  13. August 8, 2015, Juliette conquers the hearts of the audience at the Music Fest.
  14. Robert and Maryse Percy and Michel Caron, with the participation of many volunteers, led the renovation of St.Paul’s Church built in 1878 and its Cemetery. A major campaign raised the money needed for the project that was conducted in 2010. You will find more information about this remarkable event under About Us on this web site.
  15. This is a montage of some pictures of the Church of Shrewsbury that I took in 2012. Often called the “Shrewsbury ghost church,” it became a notorious site for vandalism and paranormal rumours after the village surrounding it vanished, leading to its destruction by fire. This is where Leonard and Minnie Gain were married in 1936. Leonard was a Warden of of St.Paul’s and Minnie a teacher at the Dunany School. France and I occupy the house that Leonard built in 1940.

Your comments are most welcome!
