Boyd Lake Plants

We now have a better understanding of the aquatic plants in Boyd Lake..

On August 7, 2025, Bonnie Swaine and Susan Steeves, two lake residents, together with Chrystelle Matte-Richer, an intern with the CRE Laurentides, carried out a survey of aquatic plants in the lake, just as we had done for the other lakes of Dunany.

Good news! All of the plants are native; no exotic or invasive plants have been fonud. You’ll also find several of them in the other Dunany lakes. And as shown on this map, these plants are not especially abundant in the lake.

I would, however, like to draw your attention to the filamentous algae. Their presence is a sign of excessive nutrient input in the lake. Unfortunately, they can be found in most lakes, even in Clear lake.

Well-maintained septic systems, strong shoreline protection bands and properly managed runoff are all measures that help limit the flow of nutrients into our lakes.

Here are the plants.
