Bald Eagle Fishing on Clear Lake! Have a Look!

The pictures below are those of a Bald Eagle fishing on Clear lake.

They were sent to me by Kevin Carkner, a Clear Lake resident, whom I met at the DCA’s AGM on July 27. He told me that they were taken by his neighbour and cousin Angela Bateman at 6:30am that same morning in front of her place adding “I suspect that this is indeed a rare occurrence in Dunany”. Well said!

This is all the more interesting since fishing on our lakes and stocking them with trout was on the agenda. The DCA stocks 2 of the 4 lakes every year. Since it is our main expense, board members want more information about that program. Are there many residents taking advantage of this stocking? Are they really capturing many specimens? Where and what are they catching: rainbow, speckled or lake trout?

A survey was sent to all in late April and again in May which generated some responses. About 30 trout captures were reported, mostly at Boyd and Black. If you have been fishing this year and have not yet reported your captures it it still time to do so. An email to the DCA will do the trick.

Finally, the DCA will be stocking a couple of lakes again this year in early October. Details will be provided soon.

In the meantime, comments, observations and suggestions are welcome.

Great pictures of the Bald Eagle, thank you. We’ve been very lucky to have seen them on Black Lake over the past few years. Last Friday Brian Morrison sent me a picture of it perched on a tree top across the lake from him, near Jamie’s place. Deceptively large. I saw it having a Porcupine Road Kill lunch at Ross rd and Dunany rd about a month ago, amazing wing span as it few up off the rd.

He/she has also been hunting/fishing on Black Lake. I spotted him on Saturday morning. He will sometimes steal a fish right out of the ‘hands’ of our resident Osprey!

There is a pair at Lac Louisa that I saw last year. They’re so majestic.

Great pictures. We had the experience of seeing an eagle dive into the lake right in front of our dining room window on Boyd a few years ago. Unfortunately no camera and no fish for the eagle!
